Story of Joseph

Story of Joseph

Book of Genesis (chapters 37–50)

Summary

Joseph’s story in Genesis begins with his youthful dreams in which his brothers’ sheaves bowed to his own and the sun, moon, and stars paid him homage. These visions, which provoked jealousy and resentment, foreshadowed his future destiny. Betrayed and sold into slavery by his own brothers, Joseph was taken to Egypt, where his gift of interpreting dreams eventually brought him before Pharaoh. There he explained the ruler’s visions of seven years of abundance followed by seven years of famine, urging preparation through the storage of grain. Elevated to high office, Joseph became the savior of Egypt and his family, transforming betrayal into reconciliation. His childhood prophecies and later interpretations together reveal a narrative of divine providence, resilience, and forgiveness.
